Speaking Volumes is a fundraising event coordinated by the BookMarks, a separate nonprofit organization devoted to supporting Marion Public Library. The volunteer-run group raises money through a variety of events, including an annual book sale held at the Library. All proceeds go to support the operations of the Marion Public Library. Tickets to this BookMarks event are on sale, available at the Library and on the BookMarks’ website at MarionOHBookMarks.org. A $75 ticket includes heavy hors d’oeuvres during an exclusive mingle hour with Smiley starting at 6:00 pm, just prior to the program at 7:00 pm. A $30 ticket can be purchased for just the program and includes dessert. There will be a cash bar available. Copies of select Jane Smiley titles are currently on sale in the BookMarket or at the front desk of the Library. Jane Smiley is the author of numerous novels, including A Thousand Acres, which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, and the Last Hundred Years Trilogy: Some Luck, Early Warning, and Golden Age. Her newest is Lucky. She is the author as well of several works of nonfiction and books for young adults. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, she has also received the PEN Center USA Lifetime Achievement Award for Literature. She lives in Northern California.
