Government documents
Since 1979, the Marion Public Library has served as a depository for Federal, State, and Local government publications. As a depository, we provide free public access to a vast array of informational resources from many government agencies through the Federal Depository Library Program under the services of the Government Printing Office. The State Library of Ohio supports the state’s government agencies by distributing documents to public and academic libraries. Local government information includes ordinances, zoning, and environmental issues.
The resources may be found in print, microform, or Web-based. Most government documents can be checked out from the library with the exception of those specifically designated as “Reference”. Many of the documents are located in their own area of the library collection, while others are in the circulating non-fiction collection, pamphlet files, and audio-visual materials. Online sources for government documents may be reached via www.gpoaccess.gov or www.firstgov.gov. Individual agencies and departments usually have direct web addresses as well. (Example: www.irs.gov, www.ssa.gov, www.epa.gov, etc.). State agencies and offices are also accessible on the Web through www.ohio.gov. or through individual department websites (www.dnr.gov, www.ag.state.oh.us, www.unemployment.ohio.gov, etc.)
